Election Day and the unions Dump Bush! work |
The overriding objective of the labor movement between now and Election Day (Tuesday, November 2) is the removal of
George W. Bush from office. Four years of Bush and Cheney have been a disaster for working people. To allow four more years
of this regime would be an unconscionable failure of leadership.
More than a year ago, in August 2003, rank-and-file delegates to the UE 68th Convention adopted a far-reaching statement
that called on the union at all levels to mobilize the membership and work with our allies to remove George Bush from
office. Now is the time to act.
Please review the enclosed packet of information (listed at left). Use the enclosed
Checklist to plan your leaflet distribution and other
activities. We especially encourage all UE locals to make maximum use of the half-sheet leaflet entitled Dump Bush! (in English
in Spanish) during
the final week before Election Day, the week beginning Monday, October 25. This final distribution should be organized to
maximize voter turnout. Combined with the buttons and stickers already circulating, these materials should go a long way to
getting the rank-and-file message across.
For regular updates, visit the UE web page at www.ranknfile-ue.org. Add your
name and the names of other UE leaders in your local to the UE Action Alert email system. Enrollment may be done at the UE
web page. Please contact your District leadership, UE staff person or the UE Washington Office at 703-299-5120 or
uewashington@erols.com with questions or to brainstorm how you might work to
spread the word about the need to Dump Bush! on November 2. Dont forget to report your activities to the UE News at
uenews@ranknfile-ue.org.
We cannot over-emphasize the importance of this effort. |
