"Electric Valley"
History Tour
UE Archivist David Rosenberg describes the artifacts and
records housed at the UE/Labor Archives at the University of Pittsburgh to an
Elderhostel group who spent Nov. 8 exploring the legacy of "Electric
Valley" near Pittsburgh. The group also heard from Dr. Mark McColloch,
the first UE Archivist and academic dean at the University of Pittsburgh at
Greensburg, who explained how the Archives was set up in 1975 at the direction
of then-UE Genl. Sec.-Treas. James Matles; he offered a concise history of the
electrical industry in western Pennsylvania. The group, which toured the site
of the former East Pittsburgh Westinghouse works organized by UE, included
Vincent Vingle, retired chairman of the IUE-Westinghouse Conference Board.
