Local 924
GE Retirees
Hold Annual Dinner
More than 200 retired members of Local 924 and guests held
their annual dinner Oct. 3. They heard from Steve Tormey, secretary of
the UE-GE Conference Board, who called attention to General Electrics
pension fund of $50 billion. He noted that not only does GE hold on very
tightly to that money, the company attempted to increase prescription co-pays
for retirees in 2000 negotiations. Tormey cautioned retirees not to let
politicians scare them into backing privatization of Social Security; the
system is safe. Retirees Assn. Treas. Leonard King gave a report on the Labor
Party and encouraged those not already members to join. Pres. Bill Kershner
reminded everyone that association meets the first Monday of every month at
the Decatur Library. The retirees worked at the former Decatur GE plant.
