Local 865 Reaches
Two Contracts
With Glenwood Schools
Two contracts, described by many UE members here as the best
achieved since organization of their local union three years ago, were
ratified overwhelmingly by Local 865 members on July 12. The one-year
agreements with the Glenwood Community School District cover teacher
associates and aides and kitchen and custodial staff.
Improvements include a 40-cent, across-the-board salary
increase and a raise in the shift differential. This is a 6.09 percent
increase, which far exceeds the District’s allowable budget growth, based on
enrollment.
The contracts increase the amount the District pays towards
family health insurance.
To achieve fairness on the job, new language requires the
employer to pay kitchen workers who fill in for the kitchen manager an
additional $1 an hour.
And new language gives teachers’ aides and associates at Kid’s
Place (a child care center) the same personal leave days as all other aides
and associates in the District.
The UE Local 865 negotiating committee consisted of Pres. Gene
Sheets, Vice Pres. Jeannie Wagner, Treas. Kim Chambers, Sec. Juanita Chaney,
and stewards Margaret Crawley and Patti Briels. They were assisted by Intl.
Rep. Greg A. Cross.
