Good Samaritan Solidarity
Laura Lerma, a respiratory therapist at Henry Mayo Hospital
and member of the UE negotiating committee, walks the picket line at Good
Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles in support of the California Nurses
Association. RNs, members of the CNA, staged a one-day strike in protest at
Good Samaritans attempts to force concessions in first-contract bargaining,
as well as its retaliatory closing of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. CNA
RNs at Good Sam won their union election in December 1998 and began bargaining
in April 1999.
