Tour for Justice
Two Mexican trade unionists toured the Midwest and West last
month, to tell their stories of struggle in union halls, universities,
churches and community meetings. Modesta Vazquez Lopez and Jovita Cruz Aguilar
are pictured here with Local 1172 member Tom Dunne and the McDonalds golden
arches built by Local 1172 members in Milwaukee, Wis. Vasquez was fired for
union activity at Congeladora del Rio, a U.S.-owned fruit-packing plant in
Irapuata. Cruz has been on strike since 1996 at Imprenta Morales Hermanos in
Mexico City. A report on the trip will appear in an upcoming issue of the UE
