Dave Martin, 58, the first president of UE Local 758, succumbed to his fight with a brain tumor on Friday, July 19, 2002.
The members of the local wish to extend their sympathy to his family; he will be missed by all.
An area resident for 30 years, Brother Martin had worked in the maintenance department at Glastic for 22 years.
Workers at the northeastern Ohio plastics plant voted for UE representation in October 1998, and stood strong during a
grueling 25-month struggle for a first contract. Dave Martin was elected local president not long after the 1998 Labor Board election, and
held that office until spring 2000. He served on the negotiating committee that produced a contract on Dec. 12, 2000.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an EMT with the Kingville, Ohio Volunteer Fire Department.
Brother Martin is survived by his wife, daughter, three grandchildren, two sisters, a brother, and his father.
