Local 855 Reaches 2-Year Contract
With Hawkeye Community College
WATERLOO, Iowa
UE Local 855, the union of support staff employees at Hawkeye Community College, has settled a new two-year contract.
In year one, across the board wage increases will be $.30 per hour, a 3 percent increase on average. The insurance
allotment will increase by $70 per month to $611.70, a 13 percent increase.
Also, beginning in the first year of the agreement, the local will begin meeting with the college on a regular basis in
meetings facilitated by the Iowa Public Employment Relations Board. The meetings are designed to educate employees about current health
insurance benefits, evaluate the current benefits, and investigate and recommend alternatives for future bargaining.
For year two of the contract, the local and the college agreed to a 4.3 percent increase on the total package with wage
and insurance allotment distribution to be determined once insurance rates are announced for the following year.
The locals bargaining committee consisted of Dorthea Pates, Shawn Keefe, John Rochholz and Jane Eldridge.
They were assisted by Field Org. Ryan Downing.
