Complicated by State Budget—
Bargaining with
Town of Greenfield
Yield Contracts
GREENFIELD, Mass.
The members of amalgamated UE Local 274 employed by the Town of Greenfield in the Department of Public Works, the Town Hall and Library
are again working under collective bargaining agreements. The absence of a state budget complicated negotiations and placed these UE
members in a position of working without contracts for six months.
Town Hall and Library employees ratified a three-year agreement that includes wage increases of 2 percent, 3 percent and 4 percent.
These members had to fight off a demand that they pay more for their health benefits; Library staff beat back a substantial concession in
work schedules.
Department of Public Works employees approved a concession-free, three-year agreement that includes wage increases of 2 percent, 3
percent and 4 percent. Union members fought off the threat of increased health insurance costs and negotiated numerous language changes.
The Town Hall/Library negotiating committee members were Carol Reed, Audrey Murphy, Peggy Kaeppel and Gerry Marcanio. The
Department of Public Works negotiating committee members were Paul Newall, Mark Holley, Rodney Scott, Paul Becklo and Marlow
Warner. Both committees were assisted by Paul Ryan and Judy Atkins.
