Local 1160 Makes Gains
At Roth Pump Mfg. Co.
MILAN, Ill.
Roth Pump Manufacturing Co. workers, members of UE Local 1160, are benefiting from a new contract they negotiated and
ratified in November.
Under this agreement, workers temporarily transferred to a higher-rated job will receive that job’s pay for all time
spent in the temporary position. Previously, an employer qualified for the higher pay only when working more than 10 days in any 30-day
period.
The agreement requires the company to provide first-aid training every spring. Short-term sick leave benefits for
employees with nine years’ seniority or less is extended from eight to 13 weeks, the same as employees with 10 or more years of service.
Employees with 15 or more years’ seniority (nine of the 12 workers) will receive an extra paid personal day, giving them a total of
three.
Maintaining the existing defined pension plan, adjustments are made to the formula for the company’s weekly contribution
to each employee’s 401(k) plan, increasing the company’s contribution by at least 20 percent for all employees and by as much as 80
percent for most employees.
Wage increases are 2 percent each year of the four-year agreement, representing an average increase of $1.35 over the four
years. Current average pay is $16.35.
Local 1160 members were represented by a committee consisting of Pres. Don Clemons and Vice Pres. Joe Withers.
They were assisted by Field Org. Ryan Downing.
