Members of amalgamated UE Local 404 overwhelmingly accepted a
new three-year agreement with Groov-Pin Corp. on March 1. Over the life of the
agreement they will realize gains of $3,500 in cash bonuses as well as 60
cents per hour increases. All employees working their way up through job/wage
progressions will be moved to the next level immediately, a substantial gain
for many as well.
Medical, prescription and dental insurance coverage remains at
the same benefit levels, as do employee contributions which range between $22
to $64 per month. The employer will continue to pay the difference in
prescription costs and the employee $5 co-pay.
Local 404 members will see their pension multiplier increase
$3 in the first year, raising the two-tiered plan to $23.50 and $18.50
respectfully, based on employee hiring date. Life insurance increases $10,000
to $30,000. The shoe allowance goes up by $10 to $95 per year. A clothing
cleaning allowance is good for $50 per year.
LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENTS
The union achieved contract language improvements as well.
Groov-Pin workers now have the ability to use vacation time one day at a time
by giving notice prior to shift start time, in conjunction with using six paid
sick days per year. Other language improvements include protection from the
employer forcing members on approved medical leave back to work earlier than
necessary. The members gain other language improvements and understandings as
well.
The shop negotiating committee consisted of Chief Steward Richie
Turkowsky, Shop Steward Steve Arrigoni, and Committeeman Gilberto
Kong. They were assisted by Local Pres. Joe Miglino, Field Org. James
Tobler and Intl. Rep. Bruce Klipple.
