PITTSBURGH
In a contract negotiated last year with Pennsylvania Electric
Coil, UE Local 615 members gained significant improvements in wages and
benefits.
Wages increased by 3 percent the first year; workers will see
a 3.5 percent increase the second year and a 4 percent increase the third
year. The average base wage at the end of the old contract was $12.50. Workers
also received a $100 signing bonus.
The weekly sickness and accident benefit rises from $265 to
$295; life insurance goes from $16,000 to $20,000. The employer contribution
to the 401(k) plan increases from 35 to 50 cents for each dollar contributed
by employees. The vacation bonus is improved by $50 for those workers with 15
and 20 years service.
There is no change in the cost to employees of medical
insurance. The prescription drug co-pay is reduced by half for generics, to
$5. The brand-name co-pay goes from $10 to $15, but the company will reimburse
$5 of the $15.
NEW LOCATION
The shop is currently moving to a new location in the
Mononagahela Valley community of Glassport. The move is expected to be
completed by the end of February.
The Local 615 negotiating committee consisted of Pres. Walt
Taylor, Chief Steward Mike Garofolo, Mary Ann Schmieder, Carl
Geiger, Tom Campbell. They were assisted by UE Field Org. Jim
