Wearing
bright orange t-shirts, carrying banners and sporting buttons,
more than 2,500 unionized GE workers rallied on Saturday, June
3rd, in a huge show of solidarity during their current
contract negotiations. UE, IUE, IAM, IFPTE and members of

UE General President John Hovis (left, above and at podium, below)
pounded GE's corporate
greed, seemingly insatiable given GE's profit bonanza of $10.7
billion last year. He outlined UE's proposals for a balanced agreement
including more paid time off, reversing GE's cost-shifting in
health care and substantially higher pensions. "GE must
recognize the contributions made by our members ... and to
what they offer, we say, it's not enough," he said to the
cheers of the rally participants. After the rally, workers
were treated to a picnic hosted by the UE Local 506 retirees association
(RAGE) to the sound of a local reggae band playing Bob
Marley's "Get Up, Stand Up." |
