Union Wins Reinstatement
For Worker Injured on Job
COMPTON, Calif.
After 20 years on the job in the Kraco warehouse, Conrado Perez had a
serious accident. After months-long therapeutic treatment, the doctor concluded that
Brother Perez would be permanently disabled.
Kraco demonstrated its concern by laying Perez off.
However, UE Local 1421 filed a grievance, returning Perez to his job.
"Even though I tried to do my best job in the warehouse, the company decided to
transfer me to the mats department as a forklift operator," Perez said.
Stewards Gustavo Martinez and Jose Reyes filed a grievance, citing the
workers seniority rights under the contract and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
They and Field Org. Leticia Andaya met with the company.
Thanks to the union, Perez is back on his warehouse job and his
classification.
