Water Treatment
Workers Ratify
New Contract
ERVING, Mass.
Erseco workers, members of amalgamated UE Local 269, approved a
three-year contract calling for wage increases of $1 (34 cents, 33 cents, 33 cents),
pension benefit increases of $1.50 (50 cents in each year), double time after 12 hours and
increased shift differential.
The contract also provides for six-hours call-in pay, an increase in life
insurance to $18,000 by the third year and an increase in retirees life insurance.
Sickness and accident benefits will be extended from 22 to 24 weeks and will reach $255 by
the third year. In the event of illness or injury, health benefits will be extended to 12
months.
The company sought mandatory overtime but withdrew the proposal when
members signed a petition objecting to such a scheme.
Erseco is the waste water treatment plant at the Erving Paper Mill; Local
269 also represents the mills maintenance workers.
The committee consisted of Al Campbell, Don Keith and Roger Laffond. They
were assisted by UE Field Org. Paul Ryan.
