Boycott Called;
No Results in Bargaining
October 28th: The United
Electrical Workers (UE) called for a boycott of Azteca Tortilla products
after the latest bargaining session failed to produce progress toward
settlement of the four-week-old strike at Azteca's
Chicago plant.
Strike supporters visited grocery stores
in the Chicago area last week, leafleting customers and speaking with
store managers to begin publicizing the boycott. Boycott activity will
expand to other cities beginning this week.
In another development, Azteca strikers
also extended their picket lines to three temporary employment agencies
which have begun supplying the struck plant with scab labor. With the
struggle continuing, strikers were heartened as email protests against
Azteca and solidarity messages in support of the workers began pouring in
from around the country.
Solidarity messages and donations can be
